Dr. Gur Singh honoured at Royal Inland Hospital

KAMLOOPS — Royal Inland Hospital is recognizing the contributions of a neurosurgeon, who worked at the hospital for nearly half a century.

RIH has unveiled a plaque in honour of Dr. Gur Singh, who passed away last year after battling ALS. His committment to patient care will now live on through the naming of a High-Observation room dedicated to neurosurgery patients. The plaque will be mounted in the department on 6 South.

“My dad was a humble guy, he didn’t want all the attention, but he spent 48 years in the hospital taking care of people, this is an opportunity for his spirit to continue and to be here at RIH to help people through their neurosurgical journey, it’s humbling for the family and we really appreciate RIH honouring dad this way,” says Arjun Singh, Gur Singh’s son.

Gur Singh became the first neurosurgeon in the BC Interior upon moving to Kamloops in 1967. As his career neared the end, Singh became known for his active work with the Kamloops Brain Injury Association, raising money and supporting brain-injured survivors to live to their full potential.
