WALKING DEAD RATINGS SLUMP: After the mid-week finale of The Walking Dead that garnered several epic plot twists (Daryl is back, Jesus is dead, the Whisperers are here to kill), it seems fans just weren’t that invested. Walking Dead hit another ratings low for its ninth season, which has already seen several drags. While viewership was up 8% among adults 18-49, and 6% in overall viewers from last week’s lowpoint, Sunday’s “Evolution” was the lowest rated and least watched midseason finale for the AMC series ever. Ultimately, it grabbed a 2.0 rating and an audience of 5.1 million.

NETFLIX TO MAKE NEW VERSIONS OF MATILDA, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY: Netflix has plans to remake several Roald Dahl classics, including Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The BFG. “Our mission, which is purposefully lofty, is for as many children as possible around the world to experience the unique magic and positive message of Roald Dahl’s stories,” Felicity Dahl, Roald Dahl’s widow, said in a statement. “This partnership with Netflix marks a significant move toward making that possible and is an incredibly exciting new chapter for the Roald Dahl Story Company. Roald would, I know, be thrilled.” Titles in development include: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG, The Twits, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, George’s Marvelous Medicine, Boy – Tales of Childhood, Going Solo, The Enormous Crocodile, The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me, Henry Sugar, Billy and the Minpins, The Magic Finger, Esio Trot, Dirty Beasts, and Rhyme Stew.

GWILYM LEE JOINS THE GREAT: Bohemian Rhapsody‘s Gwilym Lee has joined The Great, a new series set for Hulu. Lee will play Grigor, the BFF of Russian emperor Peter (Nicholas Hoult). Elle Fanning plays Catherine the Great, and the show will chart her rise to power. Fanning is also exec producing.

VICTORIA BECKHAM TO LAUNCH YOUTUBE CHANNEL: Fashion guru Victoria Beckham is expanding her online presence with her very own YouTube channel. Beckham reveals the channel will include beauty tutorials, styling tips and plenty of content starring Beckham herself.

NETFLIX SETS JAVIER GUTIERREZ, MARIO CASAS FOR HOGAR: Netflix has announced that Spanish superstars Javier Gutierrez and Mario Casas will co-star in the mega-streamer’s highest-profile Spanish original film to date.

AVA DUVERNAY SIGNS $100 MILLION MULTI-YEAR DEAL WITH WARNER BROS. TV: Ava DuVernay has inked a major deal with Warner Bros. TV. According to Deadline, the Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated director has signed $100 million a multi-year and multi-genre overall deal with Warner Bros. TV. DuVernay told the publication, “I’ve had nothing but beautiful experiences working with Peter Roth, Susan Rovner and Brett Paul. They love and support artists in wonderful and nourishing ways. They work within a traditional studio headed by Kevin Tsujihara that is stirring with untraditional energy and fresh protocols for intentional, inclusive image-making. Warner Bros is a terrific partner about matters of visibility and belonging for all kinds and cultures of people, which is our mission at Forward Movement. I couldn’t be happier to call Warner Bros TV my production home.” The deal is set to start in January.
