The notoriously private Robert De Niro is opening up about his split from his wife of 20+ years, Grace Hightower.
“Grace and I have two beautiful children together. We are entering a period of transition in our relationship which is a difficult but constructive process,” De Niro tells E! News in a statement. “I honor Grace as a wonderful mother and ask for privacy and respect from all as we proceed to develop our roles as partners in parenting.”
The pair married in 1997 and welcomed their son Elliot, a year later. In 1999, they separated, but later reconciled and then renewed their vows. In 2011, they welcomed a second child, Helen, via surrogate.
The 75-year-old De Niro’s net worth was estimated to be around $200 million in 2015, Forbes reported. In addition to an acting legacy, he co-funded Tribeca Enterprises, which oversees Tribeca Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival International, Tribeca Cinemas and Tribeca Film. Films produced by De Niro include About a Boy, A Bronx Tale and, most recently, Bohemian Rhapsody.
