KAMLOOPS —Update: The fire is now 35 per cent contained.

Earlier: There is progress to report on the Allie Lake fire north of Savona.

Fire Information Officer Heather Rice says there was no new growth on the 2,700 hectare blaze overnight and notes it’s now 25 per cent contained.

“We have 132 firefighting personnel on site and they are being supported by 12 helicopters and 12 pieces of heavy equipment and there is an incident management team working.”

WATCH: CFJC Today’s Kent Simmonds flew over the fire Sunday.

She says no structures are currently threatened, though an outbuilding was destroyed on the day the blaze first broke out.

Rice says, with a cold front moving in this afternoon, crews will be focusing on the west flank in anticipation that winds may shift.

“Winds are currently coming from the southwest, moving the fire in a northeasterly direction but winds may change and start to come from the northwest. So, we’re focusing on bolstering our guard line so that we can hold the fire at its current perimeter.”

She says the evacuation orders and alerts issued Friday remain in place and warns people of the area restriction that’s in place.

“So, stay well away. Crews are busy working hard and we don’t want to put them in danger by having people driving up and down the roadways.”
