DISNEY, COMCAST DOMINATE GLOBAL CONTENT SPENDING: Netflix was on track to spend more than anyone in Hollywood on content, but thanks to Comcast‘s recent $39 billion acquisition of TV giant Sky and Walt Disney‘s recent $71.3 billion buy of much of 21st Century Fox, Comcast and Disney will dominate content spend. The duo will shell out 20% of the cash plonked down for content globally, according to a new study from Ampere. Together, they’ll shell out $43 billion by the end of this year.

DOCTOR WHO TO RETURN IN 2020: Jodie Whittaker and her crew will return after their Season 11 finale Sunday night, but it will not return until 2020. Fans can get a quick fix with a New Year’s Day special in three weeks.

VIACOM BEEFS UP ORIGINALS: Viacom is ramping up its digital originals with three new series from Comedy Central International. The studio is launchingBad Cramps and Laughing at Salad, and scripted series Waiting. Bad Cramps hails from Georgie Fuller and Danni Jackson, stars of Comedy Central’s digital short Bad Snappers. It launched yesterday in Comedy Central UK’s YouTube page, and will launch elsewhere soon. Laughing at Salad, a nine-part sketch series, will launch in January. Waiting will begin development in January.

NETFLIX ORDERS FIRST AFRICAN SERIES: A spy dramedy starring Quantico‘s Pearl Thusi will be Netflix‘s first African series. Dubbed Queen Sono, the show goes into production next year. Thusi shared the news on Twitter, writing: “It’s going to change the game for every artist on this continent. Thank you to Netflix for believing in this idea.
