KAMLOOPS — Some tense moments in Westsyde last night.

Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says it all started when a man called a crisis line at 9:30 p.m. and threatened violence to himself and police if they attended his home on Oak Hills Boulevard.

Shortly afterwards, she says police quickly established a perimeter around his residence.

“A RCMP negotiator made phone contact with the male. However, he refused to leave his residence. Neighbours were asked to shelter in place,” Shelkie says. “The Southeast District Emergency Response Team attended and at 3:45 a.m., the male was taken into custody.”
