Money raised from United Way campaign helping agency move to new space on North Shore

KAMLOOPS — The totals are in and now the local United Way can look ahead to moving into its new home this summer.

The Thompson-Nicola-Cariboo United Way hosted a fundraising wrap-up party on Thursday night at its soon-to-be home at The Station on Tranquille Road, announcing it raised $3.5 million during its latest campaign over the past year.

Executive Director Danalee Baker says a portion of that money will help the organization move into the new space.

“$650,000 is what we raised for the capital portion of this building to get it ready to move in,” said Baker. “But we’re still looking for donations, so if anyone would like to contribute we’d love to connect with you.”

The United Way is slated to move into the new offices in July. Called The Xchange, the facility is about 7,300 square feet and is a collaboration between TRU and the United Way to help the community and other local non-profits.

“We’re going to be able to move into this place, and there’s so much possibility, so check in with us in a year,” Baker noted. “It will allow us to do everything we wanted to do for this region and all the non-profits and the people of Kamloops.”
