KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP have wrapped up an investigation into a fire that gutted a home on Barnhartvale Road Monday.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says it does not appear to have been arson.

“We’ve concluded our investigation into the residential fire that happened in Barnhartvale. At this time, we don’t find anything suspicious,” said Shelkie.

When Kamloops Fire Rescue crews arrived at the home early Monday morning, the home was fully ablaze.

Inspectors later said the fire started in the basement, though the cause isn’t yet known.

Inspector Ray Webster says KFR has control of the file once again, and is working with an insurance company to arrange removal of a section of collapsed floor in the home.

Webster says until that material is removed, it’s not safe for inspectors to enter the home to investigate further.
