CACHE CREEK, B.C. — RCMP have released details about a frightening robbery in Cache Creek yesterday.

It began at about 11:00 a.m., when a man walked into a laundromat and robbed a woman at knifepoint, taking her car keys and cell phone.

In possession of the woman’s car, the robber took off in the direction of Cache Creek itself, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the creek.

Bystanders, unaware of the suspect’s prior actions, helped him out of the car and he fled on foot.

Sgt. Kathleen Thain says RCMP called in resources from Kamloops, Logan Lake and Clinton to contain the area before he was finally caught.

“The male suspect was located, [he] did receive injuries from the motor vehicle crash, and was given medical aid. As a result of precaution he was airlifted to Royal Inland Hospital where he received treatment, and was later released,” stated Thain.

Thain adds the community’s school was locked down for a short time was the suspect was still at large.

A 46 year old Ashcroft man faces a series of charges, including Robbery and Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
