Kamloops Symphony holds Barb’s Book Sale Fundraiser

KAMLOOPS — It’s an annual tradition in the spring and fall in Kamloops. The Kamloops Symphony Orchestra Barb’s Book Sale is taking place for the next two weeks at Sahali Mall, with a wide variety of used books, vinyl, and other goodies on offer.

Row upon rows of fiction, and non-fiction books fill the old Sport Mart in Sahali Mall. The annual sale is a staple for the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, who hold the sale twice yearly.

KSO Executive Director Kathy Humphreys says the sale is always an incredibly popular event for the organisation.

“This is biggest fundraiser of the year for our organisation, and it goes a really long way to help us put on performances, and our educational programs for children,” Humphreys explained.

Humphreys says the sale is run almost entirely by volunteers, who sort through thousands of donated books, to keep the tables stocked. Donations come in daily, which means there’s always a fresh selection of books. Each sale can net the Symphony up to $30,000 per event.

“This sale would not be possible without the tremendous amount of hard work that goes into from our volunteers.”
