KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops will soon have a new top cop.

Supt. Brad Mueller announced his impending departure in January, after he accepted a new RCMP position in Edmonton.

Mayor Ken Christian says interviews for Mueller’s successor were conducted this week.

“[CAO David Trawin] and myself, along with members of the RCM Police and a staffing officer from Ottawa interviewed on Monday,” said Christian.

“We have made a selection and we put that selection to the commissioner in Ottawa. That has to be approved prior to an appointment being made.”

Christian says the city anticipates an appointment will be approved before the end of March.

There has been plenty of upheaval in the administration of the Kamloops RCMP detachment in recent months.

Insp. Todd Balaban started as the detachment’s new Operations Officer in January, succeeding Insp. Sunny Parmar.

Sgt. Lorne Wood is expected to depart as the detachment’s head of the Major Crimes Unit at the end of March, taking over as the new Detachment Commander of the Merritt RCMP.
