Accused intends to plead guilty in Aberdeen hit-and-run death

KAMLOOPS — The lawyer for the man accused of a 2016 hit-and-run that killed a Kamloops teenager has told BC Supreme Court his client intends to plead guilty.

Jason Gourlay is charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm, possession of a controlled substance and attempting to pervert or defeat justice.

He is accused in the November 4, 2016 crash that killed 16 year old Jennifer Gatey.

The crash took place on Pacific Way, not far from Pacific Way Elementary School, and happened on the eve of Gatey’s 17th birthday.

Gourlay was arrested in March of 2017.

Crown prosecutor Neil Flanagan and defence counsel Jeremy Jensen told court they have been discussing a possible plea, and today, told Justice Dev Dley Gourlay will plead guilty.

Gourlay is set to enter the plea on March 26.
