Holiday trips keeping Kamloops Airport busy

KAMLOOPS —Following the busiest November ever for the Kamloops Airport, YKA has no shortage of travellers making their way to see family and friends for Christmas this month.

Along with longer line ups and wait times, Managing Director Heather McCarley says, the busy holiday season means passengers need to be wary of what they’re bringing on board.

“Pack your presents, but also pack wrapping paper. Security may need to unwrap parcels in the course of your travel, so just pack some wrapping paper or gift bags.”

Last December, the Kamloops Airport saw more than 32,000 passengers come through their doors.

However, that extra traffic doesn’t worry more experienced travellers, like Ellen Wilson.

“I just try to be early and ready, and get here early so if something goes wrong, I have time to get my parking pass, and all that kind of stuff.”

Provided other connecting airports have the same warm weather as Kamloops, those holiday flights should see very few delays.

“Check ahead before you come to the airport,” McCarley cautions. “We don’t have snow here at the Kamloops airport, but weather in other destinations can affect flight schedules.”
