100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — A motorcycle crash on Highway 24 has claimed the life of a Lower Mainland man.

Cpl. Mike Halskov with BC RCMP Traffic Services says it happened just after 4:00 p.m. yesterday (Sept. 25) near Hillcrest Road on Highway 24, some 42 kilometres east of 100 Mile House.

“Unfortunately, the lone rider of the motorcycle, a 71 year old male from the Lower Mainland area, was deceased at the scene. The collision is being investigated by Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Traffic Services out of 100 Mile House, along with the BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service.”

He says investigators still haven’t figured out exactly what happened.

“It occurred near an S-curve, so it looks like this individual, who was riding with a group of other motorcyclists, failed to negotiate a corner and went off the road and was killed unfortunately. There doesn’t appear to be any impairment here and there doesn’t appear to be any indication of erratic driving prior to this. It will be up to the BC Coroners Service to determine what happened.”

The crash closed the highway in both directions for several hours.

The victim’s name has not been released.
