KAMLOOPS — A different night, but the result remained the same. The Kamloops Blazers opened the scoring early in the second period Saturday against the Victoria Royals but gave up one each in the 2nd and 3rd to fall 2-1. The loss is their fifth in a row, after opening the season with a pair of wins against the Kelowna Rockets.

Blazers Head Coach Serge Lajoie was unhappy with his team’s effort in the loss.

“To me, there’s just not enough guys that come with a workman-like attitude for a full 60,” Lajoie said after the game. “In my estimation, we let another game slip. Right now, we’re falling deeper and deeper into a hole. I’m just waiting for someone to step up. That’s what I’m waiting for.”

Conor Zary tallied the lone goal for the Blazers 1:55 into the 2nd Period, with Nolan Kneen and Martin Lang picking up helpers. Kaid Oliver got the Royals on the board four minutes after that with a power-play marker, and the diminutive Dante Hannoun scored the game-winner 9:21 into the 3rd.

Likely, BC’s Griffen Outhouse took the win between the pipes, stopping 26 of 27 pucks. Blazers rookie Dylan Garand took the hard-luck loss, making 20 saves on 22 shots.

The Blazers are on the road for a pair of games next weekend, as they visit the Langley Giants on Friday, Oct. 12th before heading south of the border to take on the Everett Silvertips on Saturday, Oct 13th. Their next home game is October 19th when they host the Swift Current Broncos.
