KAMLOOPS — It was a busy night for Kamloops Fire and Rescue crews last night.

The search boat was out on the South Thompson last night looking for a kayaker reported missing. The call came in about 7:30, and crews searched the river for some time, before finding out that the missing boater had been found at home.

A driver is lucky to be alive after a single vehicle accident east of the Peterson Creek Bridge last night.

The driver had, for some reason, veered his eastbound pickup too far off the shoulder of the Trans Canada.

The truck rolled a couple of times and wound up on its wheels.

The truck immediately burst into flames, but Platoon Captain Daryl Cooper says the driver had managed to escape before the fire. He was taken to hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries. That took place about 9:30 PM.

A group of partiers up in Batchelor had a big bonfire going, and KFR crews had to inform the partiers that such a big fire was a no-no and had to put it out. Cooper said there were no issues from the partiers as crews did their job.
