Kamloops RCMP warning children, motorists of dangers on Halloween

KAMLOOPS — It’s Halloween, an exciting night ahead for kids going trick-or-treating in Kamloops as they try to collect all the candy they can get their hands on. But local police are encouraging children and their parents to be extra cautious tonight when out on city streets. 

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie from the Kamloops RCMP says with it getting darker earlier, it’s paramount for children to be aware of their surrounding as they walk around and visit people’s homes. 

“They are going from door to door, usually to a stranger’s house and getting candy, so parents should talk to them about not going into people’s homes if they invite them in,” said Shelkie.

“They should have a plan if their child has to go to the bathroom. What is that plan going to be? Where are they going to take them that’s safe? It’s dangerous because it’s dark usually when children go trick-or-treating, so they need to be aware at night time. It’s harder for vehicles to see them and be aware of traffic that’s happening.”
