B.C. storm season pours in with state of local emergency, evacuations
The first major weather system of British Columbia’s storm season has set off a state of local emergency and evacuations on northern Vancouver Island, as forecasters warned that more drenching rain is on the way.
Parts of Vancouver Island could receive 400 millimetres or more by the time the current and incoming weather systems have passed, an Environment Canada meteorologist said Friday.
The Village of Zeballos ordered the evacuation of 22 properties Friday due to landslide risks that it said posed a threat to life and safety.
Photos posted on social media showed water coursing down slopes and over roads.
