Nov 6, 2026 | 8:09 AM

KAMLOOPS — A special weather statement for the Kamloops area has been expanded with even stronger wind gusts expected.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for the Nicola region, the Coquihalla Highway from Kamloops to Hope and the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna. A strong, low-pressure system will bring a prolonged period of southwest winds with gusts ranging from 60 to 80 km/h.

The latest special weather statement comes one day after a similar alert was issued for the South Thompson, Cariboo and 100 Mile regions.

Later Friday (Nov. 6) afternoon, Environment Canada said an incoming cold front will bring a strong push of southwest winds, with gusts potentially reaching 90 km/h. The weather agency says winds are expected to gradually ease overnight.

“Another potentially stronger storm is set to follow on Saturday evening. High-sided vehicles may be pushed around by strong crosswinds,” Environment Canada states. “Local utility outages are possible. Parks and forests may sustain damage. Secure loose objects.”

The weather agency adds that weather in the mountains can change suddenly, resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Further west, a wind warning is in effect for the Fraser Canyon – south including Lytton – with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h.
