Russell Brand, the British comedian and former Hollywood actor, was convicted Thursday in London on one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He was found not guilty on two additional rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault. The judge denied bail, remanding Brand into custody until Monday for sentencing. “Obviously a custodial sentence of some length will result,” the judge stated. A rape conviction in the U.K. carries up to 19 years or potentially a life sentence. Brand mouthed “I’m OK” to lawyers as he was taken to cells. The Met Police are now investigating further rape allegations from two additional women. Story URL
