KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of the B.C. interior, including the Kamloops area, as it warns of moderate to strong gusty winds starting Thursday (Nov. 5) evening.

The special weather statement covers the South Thompson, the 100 Mile House area, the Cariboo and the Prince George area. Yellow-level wind and/or rainfall warnings are in effect across coastal B.C. from Victoria to Haida Gwaii as well as parts of Metro Vancouver and the Chilcotin.

“A strong low pressure system will approach the B.C. coast this evening and will bring a prolonged period of southeast winds with gusts ranging from 60-70 km/h to the B.C. interior,” Environment Canada said in a statement. “These southeast winds will pick up this evening and will peak by Friday morning.”

It noted that while winds may ease slightly on Friday afternoon, an incoming cold front will bring a strong push of southwest winds, with gusts potentially reaching up to 90 km/h between Quesnel and Prince George.
