Roots and Blues festival issues call for local, Canadian performers

SALMON ARM, B.C. — A call for local musicians and artists across Canada has been issued for the 35th annual Roots and Blues festival.

Last year’s event brought out over 29,500 live music fans to take in the sounds of over 40 performers at the festival in Salmon Arm.

Organizers are looking to grow on the success of the festival by issuing a call for blues, rock, soul, funk, folk, R&B, jazz and hip hop artists to apply for some stage time.

“We encourage everybody to get those applications in,” Kevin Tobin, the festival’s artistic director, said.

“We want to see what musicians across the province and across the country are doing, and we want to make sure that the festival is inclusive to all the diverse genres that are out there, and all the incredible artistry that’s out there as well.”

The festival draws in notable headliners, but the organizer added many festival-goers love the chance to discover lesser known musicians, especially if they are from B.C. and Canada.

“It’s those undiscovered talents that really surprise audiences and these are crowds that are paying attention. They’re part of the show, and I think that’s what helps make the festival vibe so electric, is that connection between artist and audience,” Tobin stated.

“It’s an incredible opportunity to hear amazing talent that audiences might not otherwise be exposed to. We wish we had more slots to fill.”

Artists looking to showcase their talents and music at Roots and Blues can apply online here.
