EDMONTON — There were no Halloween scaries for Vit Zahejsky and the Kamloops Blazers at Rogers Place in Edmonton, as they skated to a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday (Oct. 31) afternoon.

The win also moved Blazers head coach Shaun Clouston into sole possession of fourth place on the Western Hockey League’s all-time wins leaderboard. Clouston picked up win number 627 to move past longtime WHL head coach Lorne Molleken.

Zahejsky’s seventh goal of the season came via a shorthanded penalty shot at 13:51 of the first period as the Blazers took a 1-0 lead.

Ty Bonkowski doubled the lead early in the second, but Edmonton pulled one back at 11:58 through Kayden Stroeder. He scored on a five-minute powerplay after Blazers defenceman Madden Tymchak was assessed a boarding major and game misconduct, but the Oil Kings weren’t able to beat Kaeden Tate a second time.

Tate turned aside 20 of 21 shots to improve to 6-1 this season, with a 1.96 goals against average and a .937 save percentage.

Logan Lanti scored his first of the season to make it 3-1 Kamloops early in the third period before Mikhail Cherepanov’s empty netter at 18:45 sealed the win for the visitors.

Oil Kings netminder Parker Snell stopped 27 of 30 shots in a losing effort, as Edmonton dropped to 6-5-1-0 on the season. The Blazers moved to 8-4-2-0, to sit second in the B.C. Division and third in the Western Conference

The Blazers head to Calgary next to face the 8-6-0-0 Hitmen in a Sunday (Nov. 1) matinee at Scotiabank Saddledome. Puck drop is set for 2:00 p.m. Alberta time.

They’ll also play the Red Deer Rebels on Tuesday (Nov. 3) before returning home to host the Seattle Thunderbirds at Sandman Centre on Friday (Nov. 6).
