Pile burning project planned for Helmer Lake area
MERRITT, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service is planning to burn between 30 and 50 piles nearly 30 kilometres northeast of Merritt next week.
In partnership with Rock Solid Industries, the wildfire service says the timing of the pile burn near Helmer Lake is dependent on site and weather conditions, but it could begin as early as Monday, Nov. 2.
Smoke may be visible from Lac Le Jeune, Logan Lake, Merritt and along the Coquihalla Highway and the surrounding area.
“Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days,” the wildfire service states in a news release issued Friday (Oct. 30).
