Kamloops council approves free Saturday parking for holiday season

Oct 28, 2026 | 2:23 PM

KAMLOOPS — You may not get a bunch of Monopoly money, but free parking is returning to downtown Kamloops this holiday season.

In the hopes of spurring small business and promoting ‘shop local’ campaigns in the downtown core, the City of Kamloops has approved a request from the Downtown Kamloops Business Improvement Association to have free on-street parking for five Saturdays leading up to Christmas, running from November 21 to Boxing Day.

The city has been offering free Saturday parking since 2021.

“This year, the new parking app will be set up automatically to not take parking fees on those days, helping prevent shoppers from paying by mistake,” said Birtin Baidya, Indigenous and external relations liaison.

The financial impact to the city is estimated at just over $35,000. Boxing Day is not factored into the equation as the stat holiday already allows for free parking.
