Victory in Kamloops has Conservative MLAs switching to government side for first time
KAMLOOPS — It’s a political blunder that will be dissected for years to come. David Eby’s snap election call backfiring in spectacular fashion, as with two years left in his majority mandate, his NDP was relegated to Official Opposition status, losing an election to the interim leader of a party that – just over a month ago – was coming apart at the seams. In Kamloops, it was the forecast outcome, with both Conservative incumbents retaining their seats, but now heading to Victoria as members of government.
There was reason to celebrate for the Conservatives Saturday (Oct. 14) night, as Peter Milobar and Ward Stamer were returned to Victoria for their fourth and second terms, respectively, and first in government.
“It’s so different than two years ago. I think a lot of us thought it was time for change and maybe in our hearts it was… it sure as heck is now,” Stamer told supporters.
