KAMLOOPS — The TRU WolfPack men’s and women’s soccer teams wrapped up their regular seasons against the Trinity Western Spartans at a rainy Hillside Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 24), and they’ll now turn their attention to playoffs.

The WolfPack women secured a 3-2 victory in a back-and-forth match, and will now host a playoff game for just the second time in their Canada West history.

Makenna Ford scored one and assisted on the two other goals scored by Esi Lufo and Berea Woldeyes. Lufo tallied the other assist, while Floor Ursem made four saves.

“We scored three really good goals and when you’re playing a team like TWU that has the quality that they do in the attacking part of the field, you just have to stand strong and I couldn’t be more proud of the girls for digging in and seeing out the game,” said WolfPack head coach Mark Pennington.

The WolfPack women finished the regular season with a program best record of 8-2-4 and 28 points. They’ll host either the MacEwan Griffins or the Saskatchewan Huskies in a playoff game at 12:00 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 31).

“[Hosting the playoff game] means everything, our fans – even in the rain here – they’re an extra player for us, so we hope we can pack the stands for next week and they can give us all of their energy,” added Pennington.

Elsewhere, the WolfPack men’s team battled hard but ultimately fell 2-1 to the Spartans.

Rookie, and Kamloops local, Aiden Muzio scored the lone goal of the game for the WolfPack, who had already clinched a playoff berth, and were unable to host a game, given the standings.

“I thought the guys that played tonight did really, really well. It was kind of an even match all the way through except for a couple moments there where we let ourselves down defensively, but overall it was an even game and the boys battled,” said WolfPack head coach John Antulov.

The WolfPack men finished the season with a record of 7-7-1, their best mark in Canada West since the 2023 season, which is when they last made playoffs.

They’ll face the Prairie Division-winning Calgary Dinos on the road this Friday (Oct. 30), with the start time yet to be determined. The winner will advance to a Canada West semifinal on Sunday that is also hosted in Calgary.

“Overall this season we have played well, it’s a fairly new team that is still getting to know each other and learn from each other so we just have to take the positives from this season,” said Antulov.

“Calgary is a really good squad, they’ve done really well on the other side so we are going to have to play our best to match them.”
