KAMLOOPS — The incumbent MLA for Kamloops-North Thompson has won re-election.

BC Conservative candidate Ward Stamer will serve a second term in Victoria, after emerging victorious during Saturday’s (Oct. 24) provincial election. Stamer finished with 17,228 votes (64.78 per cent), more than double second-place finisher Kory Clark of the NDP.

Clark finished with 7,615 (28.63 per cent), and he said really proud of the campaign he ran and is grateful for the volunteers and people who came out to support him.

“The voters have spoken and, you know, time for us to look within and see what’s next,” Clark said, outside Red Collar Brewing. “We’re going to hold this government to account. It’ll be up to people of B.C. to come together and decide the path forward for our party and what we’ll look like in the future.”

OneBC candidate Deborah Friesen finished third with 1,669 votes (6.28 per cent), and said the results aren’t surprising.

“It’s been an experience and, you know, the results are kind of what I expected,” Friesen said outside the Rock’n Firkin Pub. “It’s been a good 21 days here, and it was nice to get out and see what this is all about and support, you know, OneBC.”

“[The results don’t] surprise me. I think that’s kind of what most of us were wanting, to swing away from the NDP. I think that’s important at this time with everything going on.”

The former mayor Barriere was first elected to the legislature as a BC Conservative during the 2024 provincial election. He was named the Conservative candidate for Kamloops-North Thompson ahead of the collapse of the BC United party, formerly known as the BC Liberals.

Stamer remained with the BC Conservative caucus throughout the tumultuous leadership of Kerry-Lynne Findlay.
