WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The interim leader of the BC Conservatives is projected to retain his seat.

Shortly before 9:00 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 24), the Canadian Press projected that Lorne Doerkson was comfortably re-elected in his riding of Cariboo-Chilcotin, staving off the challenge from BC NDP candidate Kathryn Askew and BC Greens candidate Douglas Gook.

As of publication, Doerkson has garnered 3,972 votes – around 79 per cent of the popular vote – with four of seven advance voting ballot boxes and 15 of 82 final day voting ballot boxes reporting, according to Elections BC.

Doerkson was first elected in the 2020 provincial election. He crossed the floor from the BC United party, formerly known as the BC Liberals, in 2024, and was re-elected as a BC Conservative MLA in the 2024 provincial election.
