Village of Chase warns of potential scam targeting church-goers

CHASE, B.C. — The Village of Chase is warning residents to be wary of potential fraudsters after a resident was approached for donations for a church ‘youth retreat’ that does not exist.

The village said a member of the Chase Catholic Church was solicited at her home for the ‘donation,’ but the church later informed her that no such retreat was happening.

RCMP officials say the incident was reported to the Chase detachment on Thursday (Oct. 22), but did not provide additional details.

The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre says you should ask for information from an organization to confirm its legitimacy before making a donation.
