B.C. Conservative leader Doerkson chats Red Bridge and PET-CT
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops’ two incumbent Conservative MLAs had been advocating to the province prior to the election call on two major pieces of capital.
Current polls have the Tories switching to the government side of the legislature on Saturday (Oct. 24), which could allow projects like the Red Bridge replacement to be moved along quicker, with Conservative leader and incumbent in Cariboo-Chilcotin Lorne Doerkson joking he’s heard repeatedly about the importance of the project.
“I’m assuming that Monday morning, there will be a conversation about the Red Bridge,” Doerkson told CFJC News. “They are great guys – both Peter Milobar and Ward Stamer have mentioned just how important that is, and of course, we were sad to see the destruction there. I know they have already got it on their list, because they have called me about 100 times on the campaign about it, so trust me when I say that, it will be a definite point of conversation.”
The other major provincial need comes back to the long-awaited BC Cancer Centre on the Royal Inland Hospital campus. The build is still expected to open in 2029 to patients, but currently will not include a PET-CT scanner.
