Disney Brings ‘Star Wars’ Animated Telecast To 2027 Super Bowl
Disney will air an animated Star Wars-themed telecast of Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027, across Disney+, Disney Channel, Disney XD, and the ESPN App. Dubbed Star Wars Funday Football, the broadcast will recreate every play in real time, transforming players into animated avatars with Star Wars characters appearing at key moments. Actor Anthony Daniels, who originally played C-3PO, will participate. Disney uses NFL Next Gen Stats and Sony’s Hawk-Eye Innovations tracking technology to animate live gameplay. The telecast is one of six planned Super Bowl broadcasts across Disney properties, including a ManningCast on ESPN2, a Spanish-language option on ESPN Deportes, and a stats-focused “Playbook” on NFL Network. Five days later, a restored version of the original 1977 Star Wars film hits theaters February 19.
