Lytton mayoral race tied after election night

LYTTON, B.C. —  Residents in the Village of Lytton were split when deciding who should be the mayor.

Preliminary results from Saturday’s (Oct. 17) municipal election show incumbent mayor Denise O’Connor and challenger Jennifer Thoss tied with 45 votes apiece.

O’Connor was first elected as mayor of Lytton in 2022, the same year Thoss was elected as a village councillor.

However, the remainder of Lytton’s council has been decided.

Incumbent councillors Jessoa Lightfoot, Nonie McCann and Melissa Michell were successful in their re-election bids. They’ll be joined by newcomer Venkat Sajja, who finished with the most votes at 68.

The Village of Lytton’s communications department told CFJC Today they will receive an update from the village’s chief election officer Sunday (Oct. 18) morning.
