KAMLOOPS — Kamloops voters opted not to wipe the slate clean with the incumbent council.

Incumbent councillors Kelly Hall, Margot Middleton and Katie Neustaeter have been re-elected to serve second terms. Incumbents Dale Bass, Nancy Bepple, Stephen Karpuk and Bill Sarai are out.

Bass and Sarai served two terms on Kamloops council from 2018 to 2026. Bepple served four combined terms on council from 2008 to 2014, and from 2022 to 2026, while Karpuk was a one-term councillor.

Joining the incumbent councillors and mayor-elect Mike O’Reilly are Rob Bertrand, Steve Bucher, Christopher Mitra, Jesse Ritcey and Randy Sunderman.

Bertrand was the top vote getter amount council candidates with 10,932 votes (5.78 per cent), and he said he’s “mindblown and lost for words.”

“I don’t even know what to say to you,” Bertrand said, in a video on social media. “Top spot. That’s insane. I just wanted to say thank you…Now the work begins.”

Sunderman is the only member of the Pivot Kamloops slate who was elected to office. Mayoral candidate Nelly Dever finished second to O’Reilly while council candidates Kathrine Blair-Wunderlich and Dennis Giesbrecht were on the outside looking in.
