KENT, WASH. — An early game surge from the Kamloops Blazers was not enough to prevent a 5-4 overtime loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds Friday (Oct. 16) night at the accesso ShoWare Center.

Matthew Gard opened the scoring for the Thunderbirds with a power play goal, just past the five minute mark in the opening period.

The Blazers responded four minutes when Brady Ondrus tied things up. Goals from Ondrus and River Arnason – at 12:18 and 18:07 – then had the Blazers up 3-1 at the first intermission.

While Gard’s second of the night was the only goal scored in the second, Blazers forward Andrew Thomson restored the two goal lead with a power play marker at the ten minute mark of the third period.

With Seattle’s goalie pulled, the Blazers couldn’t hold on as Antonio Martorana and Simon Lovsin scored 25 seconds apart in the 18th minute of the third to force overtime.

Three minutes into overtime, Grayson Tash ended the game on the power play, to secure the 5-4 win for Seattle.

Blazers netminder Logan Edmonstone stopped 33 of 38 shots in a losing effort, while Seattle’s Marek Sklenicka turned aside 24 of 28 shots.

The Blazers will look will look to redeem their weekend road trip when they head to Town Toyota Center to take on the Wenatchee Wild at 6 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 17).
