Shorter days prompt safety reminder from Kamloops RCMP
KAMLOOPS — With daylight hours getting shorter, the Kamloops RCMP Crime Prevention Unit is reminding residents to take some steps to ensure their properties stay safe by adopting a 9:00 p.m. routine.
RCMP officials said this could include turning on outdoor lighting, ensuring security cameras are working, securing valuables, checking the property’s perimeter and locking exterior doors.
“Dark areas around the exterior of homes may create opportunities for unwanted activity,” said Cpl. Nik Gajic, in charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment Crime Prevention Unit.
“We recommend keeping exterior lights on throughout the night. This will also help to compliment potential CCTV footage and provides constant illumination around the home.”
