CANDIDATE CHECK-IN: Green candidate Beach takes Kamloops campaign door to door as affordability, safety concerns surface

KAMLOOPS — Ahead of the provincial election on October 24, the cost of living and public safety are among the concerns B.C. Green Party candidate for Kamloops Centre Annelise Beach says she’s hearing during the campaign.

From the North Shore to downtown, Beach says she is trying to connect with Kamloops voters throughout the city, saying those face-to-face conversations are a chance to hear the residents concerns and help shape the policies her party advocates for.

“The B.C. Greens are for the people, so we want to go and meet people, hear their concerns and advocate for them and create policy on their behalf,” says Beach. “There’s value in people meeting us and saying we’re willing to go out there and hear everyone’s concerns.”

Beach says the canvassed conversations have been similar to what she’s been seeing online, pointing to concerns about affordability.

“B.C. Greens understand we can’t address crime without addressing the root cause of the issue, which is poverty, lack of housing, mental health concerns,” she adds.

Public safety is also on her radar, saying poverty, housing and mental health need to be part of a promised response ahead of October 24.

“When people don’t have their basic needs met, then they can act in desperation, and that’s when we see our crime levels increase.”
