About seven minutes later, Nathan Brown scored restored the Winterhawks two-goal lead, as his goal made it a 4-2 game after 40 minutes.

Kim, the 15-year-old American forward, made it a 4-3 game when he scored his first career WHL goal with a little over three minutes left on the clock. Fellow rookie Liam Kilfoil chipped in with the assist for his first WHL point.

There was no comeback to be had, as Brown completed his hat trick with seven seconds left to play to give the Winterhawks the 5-3 win.

Blazers netminder Logan Edmonstone stopped 30 of 34 shots in a losing effort, while Portland’s Ondřej Štěbeták made 33 saves on 36 shots to earn the win.

Next weekend, the Blazers play a home-and-home against the Kelowna Rockets. They’re at Prospera Place on for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop Friday (Oct. 2) before Saturday’s 6:00 p.m. rematch at Sandman Centre.
