Blazers open weekend road trip with 2-1 victory in Tri-City

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers earned their first win of the young WHL season with a 2-1 victory over the Tri-City Americans on Friday (Sept. 25) night.

The game opened with an early blitz, as all three goals were scored in the first nine minutes.

Jacob Dumansky got the Blazers on the scoreboard just 11 seconds into the game with an assist from Isa Guram.

It only took the Americans 12 seconds to strike back through Aden Bouchard, who made it 1-1 at the 23 second mark

Blazers’ defenseman Mateo Ferreira tallied what stood as the game winner 8:53 into the the first period. It was the 15-year-old rookie’s first career WHL goal, with assists from Dumansky and Ty Bonkowski.

Blazers netminder Kaden Tate earned the win as he turned aside 25 of 26 shots. Tri-City’s Ryan Grout stopped 20 of 22 in a losing effort.

The Blazers continue statesside as they head to Portland to play the Winterhawks at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 26) evening.
