Kamloops football minds talk high school numbers shortage, pigskin problems
KAMLOOPS – With the South Kamloops Titans folding their senior team earlier this week due to a lack of players, the Westsyde Whundas are the last high school football program standing in Kamloops.
CFJC Today spoke to members of the local gridiron community to glean insight on the numbers shortage.
“We’ve just kind of doomed ourselves and made the same mistakes by having too many teams for too small of a player pool,” said JP Lancaster, who coached football at South Kam from 2015 to 2025. “I’m heartbroken and devastated for the kids who are losing their season. I’m just of the opinion that had the restart at Valleyview not occurred, I don’t know if we’re having this conversation.”
