Harvey Weinstein received a 15-year prison sentence Wednesday for sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006. The ruling concludes a lengthy New York legal battle spanning nine years that helped launch the global #MeToo movement. Haley, who testified against Weinstein at two separate trials, delivered an emotional impact statement, saying the process “has often felt like I was the one on trial.” Prosecutors sought a 20-year sentence, arguing Weinstein “hasn’t shown an ounce of remorse.” The 74-year-old producer, who suffers from leukemia, diabetes, and mobility issues, will likely spend the remainder of his life incarcerated.
