Prescribed burn in Peterson Creek Nature Park could begin as soon as next week

KAMLOOPS — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says both it and Tk’emlups te Secwepemc will support the City of Kamloops in conducting a prescribed burn within Peterson Creek Nature Park.

The burn area is planned to encompass six hectares within city limits. It’s part of a larger, 17-hectare strategy to help restore forest health and remove overgrown sagebrush.

The entire burn project at Peterson Creek Park was initially set to begin in spring 2025. However, it has been postponed on numerous occasions, most recently this past spring due to the weather.
