Kamloops Farmers’ Market to host all candidates forums

KAMLOOPS — With the 2026 General Local Election coming up, the Kamloops Farmers’ Market Society (KFMS) is inviting all city council and mayoral candidates to participate in a pair of public forums at upcoming Saturday markets.

The KFMS said it has a long history of co-hosting all-candidates forums with the Kamloops Council of Canadians (CoC) chapter for municipal, provincial and federal elections.

“When Dalton and Anita Strong, the market vendors who run Country Garden Greenhouse, stepped back from organizational duties with CoC in 2024, the KFM took over the organizing responsibilities for the forums with support from Derek Cook, retired TRU political science professor,” said the KFMS.

“Being able to make informed decisions about who we want to represent us where we live can help us create positive change.”

The KFMS will host two forums: one on Saturday, Sept. 26 for city council candidates and another on Saturday, Oct. 3 for mayoral candidates.

Both will have the same format and run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

“It will begin with candidate introductions and then move on to questions from the public. We ask that people keep their questions concise so we can get to as many questions as possible,” said the KFMS.

“There will also be opportunities for the public to connect with candidates at their campaign booths at market before and after the forum.”

The KFMS said all candidates have been invited via email.

General voting day for the 2026 Local Election is set for Oct. 17.
