“But for us, we remain focused on responding to Donald Trump’s trade war against British Columbia and that is important work for us for British Columbians,” added Eby.

Unquestionably, should the NDP call an early vote, their campaign will centre around Canada-US relations.

“Because he can’t campaign on health care and anything to do with that because of the abysmal state it’s in, or our education system, crime and safety, the lack of affordability people are feeling in their households – so he is going to distract,” said Peter Milobar, Kamloops Centre MLA.

Milobar is serving as the interim leader of his yet-to-be named party, noting conversations are ongoing with Centre BC.

“We are willing to talk with and work with everybody because I think we all agree we can only have one party running other than the BC Conservatives on the right-of-centre side of the electoral ballot,” Milobar told CFJC News. “We have been talking with Centre BC all along and we are going to continue to discussions with Centre BC and anybody else who would like to meet.”

As election fever takes hold, the BC Conservatives held a late-night caucus meeting, with reports that leader Findlay was asked to but refused to step down.

Milobar confirmed his party finalized its constitution during a caucus meeting last night in Vancouver unsure if Eby is posturing or whole-heartedly considering a trip to Lt. Governor.

“We don’t know when an election will or won’t be called, we don’t know if this is political mischief from the premier or not,” said Milobar. “We are not going to stop working on our plans and timelines based on rumours and innuendos. Once there is more definitive understanding of what timelines actually are or not, then we will reassess then.”
