Longtime Merritt councillor Baker seeks first term in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — Dave Baker is hoping his experience as a three-term councilor in Merritt can propel him to the top of ballots in Kamloops on October 17.
Baker’s main priorities for his campaign circle around public safety and fiscal responsibility, noting the challenge can be finding a balance between attracting growth and maintaining services without taxing families out of their homes.
“We need to make sure we have enough funds to keep the pipes in the ground, the water the sewer, operating correctly. We need to keep the roads that we drive on in good shape,” said Baker. “We need to keep our city assets, pools, skating rinks up and running. We also need to be cognizant of moving forward, building new assets and making sure there is enough money in the coffers to keep them going.”
