California prosecutors have decided against seeking the death penalty for Nick Reiner, 33, charged with murdering his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced Tuesday that after reviewing aggravating and mitigating factors, the maximum sentence Nick Reiner could face is life without the possibility of parole. His siblings’ views were also considered in the decision. Nick Reiner faces two counts of first-degree murder and a lying-in-wait allegation. He has pleaded not guilty. Rob and Michele Reiner were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home in December 2025.
