The Television Academy is in talks with Prime Video to bring the Primetime Emmy Awards to the Amazon-owned streaming platform. If finalized, it would mark the first time in Emmy history the telecast does not air on broadcast television. NBC’s airing of the 78th Emmys on Monday concluded the academy’s most recent eight-year deal with ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC. The Emmys have rotated among the four major broadcasters since the mid-1990s. The move would make the Emmys the second major EGOT awards show leaving network TV, following the Oscars’ announced move to YouTube beginning in 2029. Prime Video already holds rights to the Academy of Country Music Awards and carries live sports including NFL, NBA, and NASCAR.
