Final Tapestry Festival to take place at McDonald Park in Kamloops this Saturday

KAMLOOPS — The North Shore Business Improvement Association (NSBIA) will be hosting the latest – and final – edition of the annual Tapestry Festival this Saturday (Sept. 19) at McDonald Park.

The event is in its fifth year and organizers are once again promising a variety of music, dance, art, cultural experiences, as well as vendors and food offerings from all around the world right here in Kamloops.

“I think it’s the best multicultural event in the city, without a doubt,” NSBIA marketing manager Patti Phillips said. “What makes it for me – and it has been since the moment we did it – is the energy. You’ll have 100 people up dancing, every colour, every age, nobody cares where you’re from. You feel like you’re all one and it’s just such an energy that you have to feel it.”

“It’s incredible, it really is.”

New this year is a free shuttle between McArthur Island and McDonald Park which Phillips says will run about every 15 minutes.

“You can park at McArthur Island where there’s a lot of parking,” Phillips said. “They’ll pick you up and drop you off. The City of Kamloops also has a free bike valet so you can ride you bike to your event and it’ll be looked after while you are eating and dancing and drinking because there is so much to do.”

Phillips says there will be something for everyone at this year’s festival as there will also be a kids zone and an art pavilion at McDonald Park. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and there will be 17 different performances on stage until 4:00 p.m. The full lineup can be found here.

“It has grown but, unfortunately, this is the last year for the Tapestry Festival,” Phillips said. “We’re going to be moving on to something different, which is going to be also exciting but we’ll talk about that in the next while.”

“The Tapestry Festival has been an amazing event and we hope everybody can come out this weekend.”
