Kamloops Food Bank in search of volunteers ahead of fall food drive

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Food Bank is gearing up for the fall Rotary food drive, set to take place on September 26, but is in need of some extra help.

More than 32,000 yellow paper bags need to be distributed to homes across the city before food drive day, so residents can fill them up. So far, about 70 per cent of the community is covered.

“It takes about an hour for 100 houses, to deliver to 100 houses,” said Bernadette Siracky, president and CEO of the Kamloops Food Bank. “Many of the map areas we have are about 200 houses, so it’s about a two-to-three-hour commitment. But you have until September 24 to do it, so there is over two weeks to deliver these bags. You can chunk it out into different walks in the day and now you are doing something really important.”
