“My late husband, he also encouraged people to donate to a worthy cause, and to him, Royal Inland Hospital is one of the more worthy causes that covers all areas,” June Butler told CFJC News.

June and her son Glen made the $1-million donation, wanting to give back to the community.

“Kamloops is our home. Kamloops is where our business was. We were successful because of our loyal customers and Kamloops people, and this is our way of giving back – to show our appreciation,” added June.

The Butler donation is destined for innovation at the hospital, helping toward many of the RIH Foundation’s current initiatives.

“The government is on a freeze and we are trying to do innovation – anything new,” said RIH Foundation CEO Heidi Coleman. “We are building a hybrid [operating room] for vascular and neuro surgery, cancer care – there is a lot going on in Kamloops with that. We also have work to do for the gastroenterologists. We are building an [endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography] suite.”

The Joe, June and Glen Butler Skywalk, providing a brief moment of calm for many on the toughest days of their life.

“To say thank-you and to honour, Joe we have named this area the Joe, June and Glen Skywalk forever more,” added Coleman in the RIH video.
